How to Wear a Tarleton State University Class Ring

How to Wear a Tarleton State University Class Ring

A Tarleton State University class ring is traditionally worn on the right ring finger. Before graduation, wear the “T” facing inward; during commencement, turn it outward. Tarleton’s ring-turning tradition marks the transition from student to graduate.

What Finger Do You Wear a Tarleton State Class Ring On?

The right ring finger is the customary choice for a college class ring. It keeps the ring separate from a wedding or engagement ring commonly worn on the left hand. This is general class-ring etiquette; Tarleton’s published commencement instructions focus specifically on the direction of the “T.”

Your comfort and preferred fit also matter. If another finger works better for you, choose a size suited to that finger. For more on placement, read our guide to what finger to wear a class ring on.

How Do You Wear a Tarleton Ring Before and After Graduation?

The direction of the design is the key part of Tarleton’s tradition. The university’s official commencement traditions page explains when to turn the “T.”

Tarleton ring orientation
Stage Direction of the “T”
Before graduation Facing inward, toward you
During commencement Turn it outward when graduates are invited to do so
After graduation Facing outward, to show you are a Tarleton graduate

If your ring features a university seal, use its upright design to orient the ring. Follow the instructions given during your commencement ceremony.

Tarleton Class Ring Turning: When Does It Happen?

Tarleton includes ring turning in commencement. Receiving your ring at a ring ceremony and turning it at graduation are separate milestones: you can receive and wear your ring before you graduate, then turn it outward during commencement.

If you are planning for the ring ceremony, see our Tarleton ring ceremony guide for event details, ordering information and participation instructions.

Can I Participate With a San Jose Jewelers Tarleton Ring?

Yes. San Jose Jewelers rings are allowed in the Tarleton Ring Ceremony. Tarleton has confirmed this directly to us and students. The Tarleton Alumni Association’s published policy also welcomes students with rings regardless of where they purchased them.

San Jose Jewelers offers university-licensed Tarleton rings. This is distinct from the designated official-ring program. Always contact the Alumni Association to confirm registration, your session and whether to bring or submit your ring.

After the ceremony, Tarleton invites students to take photographs at the campus ring statue and have their ring hand signed by the Purple Poo.
